Don't Cry, Mommy

Don't Cry, Mommy is a film about the life of Eun Ah, a high school student (Nam Bo Ra). Following her parents' divorce, Eun Ah chose to live with her mother (played by Yoo Sun) and attend a new school. Here, she falls in love with a student who is handsome but erratic and destructive called Jo Han (Shin Dong Ho). Jo Han unexpectedly invited Eun Ah to a private meeting one day. Here, he and his buddies took turns deflowering and rape Eun Ah and then shooting a clip, threatening to post the footage on social media.

Eun Ah's spirit has been in turmoil since she was raped and then she chose suicide on her birthday to relieve the physical and mental agony she was experiencing. She had purchased a cake with the words "Don't cry, Mommy" on it before she died. Faced with incomprehensible injustice, the mother resolved to seek justice on her own, compelling the creatures to pay the price with their lives. The audience was moved to tears and pity by the film. Don't Cry, Mommy sparked a tremendous wave of popular opinion at the time of its premiere. Director Kim Yong Han's work may be regarded to have properly accomplished the objective of a film in terms of warning and denouncing crimes in society, as well as promoting the sacred link between mother and child.
