Mamma Roma
Mamma Roma, a masterwork of genius filmmaker Pier Paolo Pasolini, is often ranked among the finest classic films about motherhood of all time. The protagonist of the film is Mamma Roma (Anna Magnani)who is a former prostitute who wants to reform her life. After deciding, Mamma sells veggies and works hard every day with the intention of creating a better life for her 16-year-old son, Ettore (Ettore Garofolo). However, after discovering the truth about his mother, he grew enraged, went stealing, and ended up in jail. With a frightening ending that Ettore's death and the ringing of church bells after Mamma Roma tried suicide with her only son, the mother's sorrow of loss seemed to double many times. The passionate, deep love that does not need to be stated in words but oozes in every movement and worry for her kid has elevated the image of that tragic mother to new levels.
The director of Mamma Roma has presented to the audience a basic but sweeping humanistic message that encompasses all of a woman's life and fate, that is: Whoever your mother is, has like the past, but when nature chooses and gives them the privilege of becoming a mother, the bond of motherhood also helps them live better and be more responsible for themselves and their children.
