Earwig and the Witch
Earwig and the Witch is a computer-animated fantasy film directed by Gor Miyazaki and based on Diana Wynne Jones' novel of the same name. The film, a collaboration between Studio Ghibli, NHK, and NHK Enterprises, premiered on NHK General TV on December 30, 2020, and was released in cinemas by Toho on August 27, 2021.
The story follows Earwig as she grows up in an orphanage in the British countryside, unaware that her mother possesses magical abilities. Her life is turned upside down when she is taken in by a strange couple and forced to live with a selfish witch. As the fearless little girl sets out to discover the mysteries of her new guardians, she stumbles onto a world of spells and potions, as well as a mystery song that might lead her to the family she has always desired.
