Ecole internationale Gaston Thorn
The École Internationale Gaston Thorn is a public European school in Luxembourg's city center. It's designed to be a school for everyone, reflecting the diverse people who live in the country's capital. The school is set up to meet the needs of students from different language and cultural backgrounds. They teach in a way that makes learning languages easier, giving more students a better chance to do well in their studies and fit in socially.
To meet the demand for English and French sections, the school will add nine classrooms to the primary school level, two more than initially planned. Unfortunately, the German team for primary school students will be cut because there isn't enough interest. A classroom for German-speaking students, mainly Luxembourgers who aren't comfortable learning French, will be opened in the secondary school.
In the European school system, students can take core German, English, or French classes. Some Luxembourg schools also offer Portuguese, Spanish, and Italian sections. Almost 5,000 students attend European public schools in Luxembourg, expected to grow to 6,000 at the start of the school year.
The Gaston Thorn International School will begin with seven primary classes covering German-speaking, French-speaking, and English-speaking sections, spanning the first two school years. In secondary school, it will offer ten courses in the first and second years. A reception class and the first year of the preparation route will also be available. In the long run, the school will provide education from nursery school to the European baccalaureate.
The school's team comprises people with different professions, languages, and cultures who are passionate about teaching, creativity, and development. The school's philosophy is based on three main ideas: democracy, music, and the digital world. They believe that focusing on these three things helps young people grow, recognize their ability to make a difference and prepare them for lifelong learning.
