Scuola Materna Cattolica Internazionale
Scuola Materna Cattolica Internazionale (SCMI) is an international school for young children (ages 3 to 6) in Luxembourg. It's open Monday to Friday, from 7:45 am to 6:00 pm. The Ministry of Education, Youth, and Childhood approves this international and Catholic school.
Situated in Luxembourg City, at 19 Boulevard de la Pétrusse, SCMI is easy to reach and has a pleasant environment. The nearby Pétrusse River, playground, and school garden provide many outing opportunities. Being close to nature benefits the child's well-being and is an ideal playground for exploration, building independence, and gaining confidence.
Kids can choose between two language options: English – Italian, English – French, or Italian – French. Qualified teachers have diverse backgrounds, such as Montessori training and education and teaching sciences degrees. Along with language skills, children explore different cultures. Each chosen language is practiced for four half-days a week, and one half-day is dedicated to introducing Luxembourgish.
Following the European Schools' "Early Education" program and incorporating the Montessori method, SCMI focuses on developing communication, math, and science skills, learning how to learn, social and civic skills, and artistic and psychomotor skills. SCMI is like a family school, with a limited number of 25 children. This small size allows the school to respect each child's pace. There's even a room for quiet time and naps if needed, while others get personalized teaching.
The goal is to nurture children's learning potential and abilities by encouraging curiosity and creativity in a calm and joyful environment. Learning happens through rituals and activities like storytelling, creative workshops, games, nature exploration, cooking, and music. Children use their five senses, and skills are gained through hands-on experiences. Choirs and artistic seminars are offered every week, allowing kids to discover artists and explore their creative side.
