Edward Elric

The title character of the Fullmetal Alchemist series is Edward Elric, usually referred to as Ed or the Fullmetal Alchemist. He is also one of the greatest brother characters in anime. Alphonso Elric's older brother is Edward. Both brothers were injured in an alchemical accident while they were young, with Alphonse losing his entire body and Edward losing his left leg. Edward gave his right arm to bind Alphonse's soul in a last-ditch effort.

Edward shows his sense of self-sacrifice throughout the entire series by being more concerned with bringing Alphonse's body back than getting his own limbs back. In order to keep his brother out of harm's path, Edward has been shown to be fiercely protective of him. Ed, however, reveals his inner personality to be one of pronounced selflessness, unwavering loyalty, and profound compassion for those select few people who have had an impact on him.

Edward Elric first comes out as having a young personality. He is unmistakably strong-willed and stubborn, usually letting his petty and vengeful nature get the best of him, and regularly needs to be stopped or disciplined by Al or anyone else around. Additionally, Edward has a short fuse and prefers to resolve conflicts through violence rather than rational discourse.
