Everquest
EverQuest is a fantasy themed 3D online multiplayer role-playing game (MMORPG) for Windows PC developed by Verant Interactive and 989 Studios. The game was released in North America in March 1999 by Sony Online Entertainment, and in Europe in April 2000 by Ubisoft. A macOS-specific version was released in June 2003, and discontinued. in November 2013 after more than 10 years. Initially, Sony Online Entertainment was responsible for all development and publishing duties of the game, Verant Interactive was merged into this corporation in June 2000. Then, in February 2015, the corporation SOE's parent, Sony Computer Entertainment, sold the studio to the investment company Columbus Nova and was renamed Daybreak Game Company, which continued to develop and publish EverQuest.
The game had pre-registrations that surpassed expectations and increased in popularity years after its release and is now considered one of the best video games ever created. It has received numerous accolades including the 1999 GameSpot Game and the 2007 Tech and Engineering Emmy Awards. While dozens of similar games have come and gone over the years, EverQuest has lived up to its standards. New expansions are still being released regularly, more than twenty years after their initial release. It spawned a number of secondary media, including books and video games, as well as a sequel, EverQuest II, released in 2004.
