World of Warcraft (WoW) is a massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) created in 2004 by Blizzard Entertainment. It is the fourth game set in the fictional Warcraft universe, of which the first game was introduced in 1994 by Warcraft: Orcs & Humans. World of Warcraft takes place in the world of Warcraft Azeroth, approximately four years after the events at the end of Warcraft III: Frozen Throne previously released by Blizzard Entertainment. The game was released on November 23, 2004, on the 10th anniversary of the Warcraft franchise. In 2014, the game reached 100 million players and $8.5 billion in revenue.
