Grand Theft Auto V
Grand Theft Auto V is an action-adventure video game developed by Rockstar North and published by Rockstar Games in 2003. It is the fifth installment of the Grand Theft Auto series after Grand Theft Auto IV (2008). Set in the fictional Southern California state of San Andreas, the single-player mode's plot revolves around three main characters—retired bank robber Michael De Santa, street gangster Franklin Clinton, salesman Trevor Philips, drug dealer and arms dealer—as well as the heists they committed under pressure from a government agency and other criminals. The open world design allows the player to freely explore the countryside of San Andreas as well as the fictional city of Los Santos (based on Los Angeles).
Widely promoted and awaited by Rockstar, Grand Theft Auto V broke numerous sales records in the video game industry and became the fastest-selling entertainment product in history when it reached sales of $800 million within one day and $1 billion within three days of its release. The game received mostly positive reviews from critics, mainly for the three main character system, the open world in the game as well as the graphics and gameplay. However, the game is controversial for its violence and portrayal of women. Considered one of the most significant games of the 7th and 8th generation consoles, as well as one of the greatest video games of all time, Grand Theft Auto V has won numerous awards, including Game of the Year, as voted for by newspapers and magazines. Grand Theft Auto V is the second best-selling video game in history with 130 million copies sold with approximately $6 billion in worldwide sales.
