League of Legends

League of Legends is a multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA - Multiplayer Online Battlefield Arena) video game developed and published by Riot Games on Windows and MacOS platforms, inspired by the Defense mod. of the Ancients for the video game Warcraft III: Frozen Throne. It is a free to play game and is powered by micro-transactions. The game was first announced on October 7, 2008 and released on October 27, 2009. Since its release, League of Legends has been very well received, and has grown in popularity over the years. According to a 2012 Forbes article, League of Legends is the most played computer game in North America and Europe in terms of hours played. As of January 2014, there were 67 million players playing League of Legends per month, 27 million per day, and more than 7.5 million concurrently during peak times. This is considered one of the most successful games of all time. As of September 2016, it is estimated that there are more than 100 million players per month.

League of Legends has become increasingly popular around the world. Riot Games has organized tournaments in the region. From there, they select the best teams from each region to compete in the World Championships and Mid-Season Championships.

On October 16, 2019, on the 10th anniversary of League of Legends, Riot Games announced that a shortened version of the game called League of Legends: Wild Rift will be released on Console and Mobile platforms (Android, IOS operating systems) in early 2020. Besides games based on League of Legends such as Legends of Runeterra, Teamfight Tactics game mode will also be released on Mobile.
