Fiestas Patrias (Independence Day or National Holiday)
This is one of the most famous festivals in Chile, partly due to the time it is held - September 18 is the country's National Day. Coming to Fiestas Patrias (in the capital Santiago), visitors can also enjoy traditional Chilean food such as empanadas, and chicha and drink red wine. In addition, visitors also have the opportunity to explore many other activities such as flag flying, kite flying, and dancing.
It is common to see people dressed as Huasos, with straw hats and ponchos. Traditional foods and drinks include Mote con huesillo, anticuchos (a meat skewers) and terremotos (earthquakes), drinks made with pipeño, grenadine, and pineapple ice cream. In addition, Fiestas Patrias is a famous festival held all over the country with street parties, music, and dancing.
