Tapati
Tapati is the famous Chilean owl festival held annually by Easter Islanders in late January and early February, lasting for about one to two weeks to celebrate Rapa Nui's heritage and showcase their cultural traditions. with the world community. This event attracts more tourists to Easter Island than any other time of the year. Every day of the festival is filled with different exciting activities such as horse racing, swimming competitions... At the festival, the islanders wear simple traditional costumes. They decorate their faces and bodies and wear feathered hats on their heads.
Among the festival's series of activities, the "Birdman" (Tangata Manu) contest is the most notable for its uniqueness and challenge. In addition to the Birdman competition, there are two outstanding events in the Tapati festival, the sculpture and dance competition. The sculpture contest plays an important role not only as an opportunity to show the ingenious sculpting techniques of the people here but also to honor the unsolved mysterious beauty of nearly 1,000 statues created by the Rapa Nui people.
