Flaming Gorge Reservoir
The Green River is dammed behind the Flaming Gorge Reservoir to form Wyoming's largest reservoir, Flaming Gorge Reservoir. The dam's construction started in 1958 and was finished in 1964. Most of the reservoir is in southwest Wyoming, with a small portion in northeastern Utah. The reservoir's southern point is roughly 64 km north of Vernal, Utah, while the northern tip is located 16 km southeast of Green River, Wyoming, and 23 km southwest of Rock Springs, Wyoming. The lake is located on the Wyoming-Utah border. Dutch John, Utah, a nearby hamlet, was developed to act as a base camp during the dam's construction and as an administrative hub afterward.
The 17,000-acre lake serves as the recreation area's focal point and provides fantastic windsurfing, water skiing, boating, and fishing opportunities. Along with cross-country skiing and snowmobiling, hiking is another fantastic activity there. There are several places to stay near the lake if you decide to spend the night. Campgrounds, log cabins, and hotel rooms are some examples.
