François Duesberg Museum, Mons
The François Duesberg Museum opened on September 21, 1994, and is dedicated to ornamental arts from 1775 to 1825. The museum is in the old National Bank of Belgium buildings in Mons (Hainaut), beside the collegiate Saint Waltrude Church. It has a notable collection of clocks and mantel clocks, superb gilded French bronzes, porcelain (mostly from Paris and Brussels), ceramics, jewelry (including the famous Mons-punch), and countless things of comparable quality.
Few museums can compete with the exceptional collection of decorative arts on exhibit at the François Duesberg Museum. Visitors may marvel at the wonderful artifacts dating from the 18th and 19th centuries. More than 300 clocks, Neoclassical-inspired sculptures, china, jewelry, and other rare and stunning historical items are among them. They will also get a taste of life in Paris from the era of Louis XVI through the reigns of Napoleon and Charles X within the palace-like museum. The museum holds two Michelin stars in numerous categories because of the magnificent collection of Baron François Duesberg and his wife. Needless to say, it is a must-see for everyone who fantasizes about living a life of perfect luxury.
