In Flanders Fields Museum, Ieper
The In Flanders Fields Museum is a museum dedicated to the study of the First World War in Ypres (Ieper), Belgium. It is located on the second level of the Cloth Hall (Lakenhalle) in the city center's market square. During the war, artillery partially damaged the structure, although it was later rebuilt. The old Ypres Salient Memorial Museum was rebuilt and renamed In Flanders Fields Museum after Canadian John McCrae's renowned poem. The museum reopened on June 11, 2012, after a period of closure. Piet Chielens, the curator, is a World War I historian.
Its permanent display depicts the tale of the invasion of Belgium, the four years of trench warfare in Westhoek, and the conclusion of the war. Visitors can obtain insight into the human battle experience by examining a sequence of hundreds of real artefacts and photos. This is further enhanced with lifelike characters and interactive displays. They can also climb the belfry's 231 stairs for breathtaking views of the city and nearby battlefields. Flanders Fields, unlike other war museums, strives to transmit a universal and modern message of peace rather than focusing on the horrors of war.
