Gangs of New York
The Gangs of New York is a 2002 American epic historical drama film directed by Martin Scorsese and written by Jay Cocks, Steven Zaillian, and Kenneth Lonergan. It is based on Herbert Asbury's 1927 book of the same name. Leonardo DiCaprio, Daniel Day-Lewis, and Cameron Diaz appeared in the picture, which also features Jim Broadbent, John C. Reilly, Henry Thomas, Stephen Graham, Eddie Marsan, and Brendan Gleeson.
Day-Lewis reproduced the horrifying vision of Bill the Butcher, the creator of the Bowery Boys gang in mid-nineteenth-century New York, in his second collaboration with Scorsese—and in a performance that garnered him his third Oscar nomination. Scorsese is the most well-known American director to portray the mafia in all of its aspects, therefore he put a lot of faith in Day-Lewis to portray this intimidating figure correctly. It turned out to be a superb casting move, as Day-Lewis' performance as Bill, one of the greatest—and most terrifying—movie villains of all time, overshadows his supporting cast and elevates the picture to stardom.
