Lincoln
Steven Spielberg directed and produced Lincoln, a 2012 American biographical historical drama film starring Daniel Day-Lewis as US President Abraham Lincoln. Sally Field, David Strathairn, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, James Spader, Hal Holbrook, and Tommy Lee Jones all appear in supporting parts in the film.
Day-Lewis is recognized for his method acting, and no other part in his career more exemplifies his commitment to the craft than this one, for which he received his third Academy Award for Best Actor. Day-Lewis' portrayal is possibly so impressive because the figure is so familiar (even if the film presents an intimate perspective of the renowned US president that most viewers—American or otherwise—don't have). A brilliant actor brings a character to life, whether or not the figure existed in real life. Day-Lewis' Lincoln is more than a grim face on a piece of paper or a monument floating over a crowd; he's still a massive figure, but one who appears credible and real in ways that most movie characters don't.
