Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration
The Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) is a public co-educational university in Accra, Ghana, with six schools and 10 research institutes dispersed across four campuses (Accra, Tema, Kumasi, and Takoradi). Nicholas T. Clerk (1930 – 2012), the Institute's Rector from 1977 to 1982, named Greenhill as the Institute's site. Greenhill is a reference to the main campus' lush vegetation and mountainous topography, as well as its position in Legon, which was traditionally on the outskirts of Ghana's capital, Accra.
GIMPA successfully participated in a World Bank-sponsored Public Sector Reform Program alongside 200 state institutions, and became a self-financing institution as part of the National Institutional Reform Program in 2001. An Act of Parliament established it as a public university in 2004. The Institute of Public Administration was founded in 1961 by the Ghanaian government with funding from the United Nations Special Fund Project, with the intention of serving as a specialised training graduate school for Ghanaian civil employees. In business administration, entrepreneurship, law, public administration, development management, governance, leadership, and technology, GIMPA now offers bachelor's, master's, and executive master's degree programs.
The institution also has cutting-edge facilities as well as excellent academic and administrative services. A large library and sports facilities are among the amenities available at the institution. Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration also encourages international students to study abroad and participate in exchange programs, making it a popular choice among international students. External academic organisations, such as the African Universities, have membership relations with the institution (AAU).
