Gift Giving Etiquette

With two hands or just the right hand, gifts should be given and accepted. If it is a Muslim household, refrain from bringing alcohol and make sure that all edibles are cooked in accordance with halal guidelines.

Men should not give gifts to women in more traditional contexts. The gift must therefore be presented with the message that it is being given on behalf of a female family member. For instance, "I got this for you from my wife."

Bring flowers or high-quality chocolates to the hostess if you are invited to a Pakistani's home. As white flowers are typically used at weddings, avoid giving them. In the event that a guy must present a gift to a woman, he should claim that it comes from his wife, mother, sister, or another female relative. Don't distribute alcohol. Gifts are not unwrapped right away. Gifts are presented using both hands.
