Despite squash and cricket being the more well-liked sports in Pakistan, field hockey is the national sport. The national field hockey team has won the trophy four times, demonstrating some success at the Hockey World Cup. The national cricket team has placed second in 1999 after winning the Cricket World Cup in 1992.
The country also served as the host for the Cricket World Cups in 1987 and 1996. The cricket squad has also received additional honors, including the 2017 ICC Champions Trophy, three Austral-Asia Cups, and the 2009 ICC World Twenty20. The country has competed in the Summer Olympics internationally in sports such field hockey, athletics, shooting, boxing, and swimming.
The Pakistanis have had the most success in hockey, having won three gold medals in the sport in 1960, 1968, and 1984. A1 Grand Prix racing has grown somewhat in popularity since its debut in 2005. Soccer is another sport that is growing in popularity.
