Guegue Waterfall
Another waterfall that is connected to the local's culture and tradition is the Guegue Waterfall. This is said to be a "lost and virgin" waterfall of São Tomé and Príncipe, which means it is one of the hidden waterfalls that not many tourists know about. To get to the Guegue Waterfall, a pair of water shoes is very necessary, since the hiking road is slippery and not very safe, especially for unprofessional hikers. Tourists will have to challenge themself with a bit of trekking through dense vegetation and plantations. However, the result will be all worth it!
For tourists, the Guegue Waterfall is a getaway location to escape from the daily city life or a challenge for themselves to surpass their own limits. However, for the local residents, this place has a special meaning, as the waterfall has been the place where they practice an old tradition for generations. The people here somehow believe that, if they go to this waterfall and take a bath in the refreshing water in the first week of the new year, all their bad memories in the old year will be washed away, and they'll welcome a new year with greatness and new achievements.
