High Technology High School
High Technology High School (HTHS), founded in 1991, is a four-year STEM public high school for students in grades ninth through twelfth, located in the Lincroft section of Middletown Township, Monmouth County, New Jersey, and operated as a collaborative effort between the Monmouth County Vocational School District (MCVSD) and Brookdale Community College.
It is a pre-engineering academy that offers courses like Introduction to Engineering and Design, Computer Integrated Manufacturing, and Engineering Principles. It belongs to the National Consortium of Specialized Secondary Schools for Mathematics, Science, and Technology.
The High School curriculum prepares students for their college and career futures by showing them how to use the technology they have acquired throughout their education rather than teaching widgets and programs. How do they decide which program is best for which investigation? How do they learn to use tools they've never seen before? How do they self-assess their knowledge to ensure they have obtained what they require? Expect no black-and-white answers. Success is more likely to be determined by student knowledge transfer than by their ability to check off boxes on a rubric.
Seniors from High Technology participate in a mentorship one day per week for the duration of the semester. Students conduct real-time research in a technological field alongside an engineer, scientist, or researcher. Each student gives a multimedia presentation to a colloquium of peers and mentors at the end of the mentorship. This document summarizes all of the formal and informal learning that occurred at the end of the senior year.
Many of the courses at HTHS are taught by teams of teachers who are experts in their fields. The science and technology program, the humanities program, and the sophomore technologies program all integrate multiple disciplines to enrich students' subject matter. Students work in groups and are evaluated through the exhibition as well as traditional methods.
