The Davidson Academy of Nevada
The Davidson Academy is a STEM school for profoundly gifted students with two accredited options: an online campus for students living anywhere in the United States and Canada and a Reno, Nevada, public school located on the campus of the University of Nevada, Reno, for students living in the area. The school opened in 2006 and is the nation's first public school for profoundly gifted (high IQ) students.
The Davidson Academy Reno campus has 144 students enrolled for the 2021-2022 school year, and the online campus has 98 students enrolled. Each student at the Davidson Academy receives a personalized learning plan designed to provide them with an education specifically tailored to their individual, unique needs. Unlike traditional school settings, the academy's classes group students based on ability rather than age. The school is intended to provide an educational environment in which highly intelligent young people's abilities, strengths, and interests are encouraged and supported.
The Davidson Academy is the nation's first free public school for exceptionally gifted middle and high school students. Profoundly gifted students are three standard deviations above the mean on the bell curve, putting them at the far end of the intelligence, or IQ, spectrum. Unlike traditional school settings, students at the Academy are divided into groups based on ability rather than age.
