Hjarnø
Hjarnø is a small Danish island with a population of just over 100 people and an area of only 1.2 square miles. Despite being only 500 meters from the mainland, Hjarnø exudes an island vibe. As soon as you arrive at the small ferry quay, time stops and history emerges from beneath the surface.
Hjarnø is a flat moraine developed during the last ice age that is perfect for hiking due to its tiny size. For example, you can take a trip to the ancient Viking Age burial mounds east of the lagoon at Hjarnø Odde and marvel at the massive boulders arranged in the shape of an old Viking ship. On the island, you can also find Denmark's tiniest church, as well as traces of the Viking Ages.
Don't forget to try local wine and freshly dug potatoes, and explore the island's magnificent countryside on foot, bicycle, tractor, or golf buggy.
