Holy Week

Holy Week in Seychelles is the most sacred week in the liturgical year in Christianity. Holy Week happens the week after Lazarus Saturday and begins on the evening of Palm Sunday. Holy Week starts on Palm Sunday with the commemoration of Christ's triumphal entry into Jerusalem, marks the memorial ceremony of Jesus' betrayal on Spy Wednesday (Holy Wednesday), climaxing on Maundy Thursday with the commemoration of the Mystical or Last Supper and the Passion of Jesus on Good Friday. Holy Week concludes on Holy Saturday with Christ's rest in death and descent into Hades.

Don’t be surprised when you see a lot of parading and partying over the Easter period. Seychellois are a profoundly religious folk and these holidays are a jolly occasion when street fests are accompanied by plenty of food stalls and colorful music of the region.
