Independence Day
Every year on June 29th, the Seychellois commemorate the day they gain their independence from British domination, which is celebrated as Independence Day or National day. It is one of the most famous festivals in Seychelles. The celebration mostly involves communities with a stunning display of patriotism and pride that spills into the city streets and lights up the night sky with the year's most anticipated fireworks display.
The streets of Victoria on Independence Day are decorated with the striking colors of the Seychelles flag in the run-up to National Day celebrations, and twinkling lights are hung from lampposts. On a typical day, friends and family meet for joyful picnics and BBQs on the beaches and in the parks. In the evening, a line-up of entertainment involving prominent local artists and an outstanding fireworks display is arranged in Victoria, attracting one of the year's greatest crowds. Visitors to the islands are encouraged to participate in the festivities and will be greeted with ordinarily Creole hospitality.
