Honorary Group Captain in the Air Force
One of the major achievements of Sachin Tendulkar is that he was the first sportsperson to be given an honorary rank in the IAF. Every year, the Indian Air Force (IAF) commander and top officials from the three armed forces gather at Hindon base to commemorate Air Force Day. The IAF was established on October 8, 1932, and has since taken part in a number of important conflicts and missions.
On September 3 in 2010, senior Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar was awarded the honorary title of Group Captain by the Indian Air Force in recognition of his cricketing exploits and contributions to the country. Tendulkar was the first sportsperson to be awarded a rank by the IAF, as well as the first guy from outside of the aviation industry to get such an honor.
Tendulkar had played in 200 Tests and 463 One-Day Internationals (ODIs) for India. He also has a total of 100 hundreds to his name, having amassed 15,921 Test runs and 18,426 ODI runs for India.
