Iberian Mask Festival
This is definitely one of the most famous festivals in Portugal. During the first week of May, the Iberian Mask Festival is held. Since 2006, the International Festival of the Iberian Mask (FIMI) has been held, with the goal of representing Iberia and beyond while disseminating knowledge and awareness of various facets of common popular culture in Portugal and Spain, with the Mask as the core focus.
People dress up in quirky costumes and masks and go to the streets of Lisbon for this one of a kind celebration. The festival is held to commemorate the cultural and ethnic links that exist between the Spanish and Portuguese regions.
This four-day event highlights Iberian culture and allows all attendees to experience its essence. The Iberian Mask Festival is the gathering's most important aspect and core concept. Traditional pagan masks differ across the Iberian Peninsula, but they always remind us of the shared roots of Spanish and Portuguese cultures.
Each year, the number and types of areas engaged change. The basic objective, however, remains the same: to bring the peninsula together and raise awareness of its distinctive culture and customs. Hundreds of stalls promote local foods such as wine, cheese, chocolate, and other delicacies. Visitors may also browse handicrafts, attend concerts, plays, and workshops, listen to ethnic music, and enter a picture contest. You are not need to pay to participate in any activity because admission is free.
