Praia Grande Beach Games
Praia Grande Beach Games, Portugal's unofficial water sports capital, organizes this summer-long festival for beachgoers of all ages and skills. Between June and August each year, some of the top body boarders in the world take on the difficult Atlantic Ocean waves. Visitors can also take part in boules and volleyball competitions, or simply watch from the shade of surrounding café bars.
"Praia Grande Beach Games, one of Lagoa's most popular beaches, now has a playground with completely new and modern equipment," according to a news release from the Lagoa Council. It goes on to say that the play park is the first step toward the future Centre of Beach and Sea Sports Activities (Centro de Atividades Desportivas de Praia e Mar), which will be located in Praia Grande and open all year.
During October and November of last year, the local council rebuilt the pavement at several of the borough's playgrounds because "most were rundown." Aside from these initiatives, the borough's local government plans to establish "additional leisure and play places."
