Joe Sakic is a former professional ice hockey player and executive from Canada. He was a member of the Quebec Nordiques/Colorado Avalanche organization for his entire 21-year NHL career. He is officially ranked fourth in the list of richest hockey players
Sakic is recognized as one of the finest team captains in league history, having been named captain in 1992 (after serving as a co-captain in 1990–91) and continually motivating his team to perform at a winning level. Sakic led the Avalanche to Stanley Cup victories in 1996 and 2001, being selected the most valuable player of the 1996 playoffs and being chosen the NHL MVP in 2001 by hockey writers and his teammates. He is one of six players on the squad who has played in both Stanley Cup triumphs. Sakic was also named to 13 NHL All-Star Games and three times to the NHL First All-Star Team at center.
