Wayne Gretzky
Wayne Douglas Gretzky CC is a retired Canadian professional ice hockey player and head coach. He played 20 seasons in the National Hockey League (NHL) for four different clubs from 1979 to 1999.
His father Walter taught him, his siblings, and their friends how to play hockey on a homemade rink in the family's backyard, and Gretzky shown natural talent from an early age. He was already on a 10-year-old squad when he was six, and he continued to gain attention as he grew older. His success on the ice brought criticism from other players and jealous parents, and he was frequently booed during games.
Gretzky joined the Indianapolis Racers in 1978. The team dissolved, and their young asset was sold to the Edmonton Oilers of the NHL. The next year, Wayne Gretzky played his first complete NHL season. His performance was a tremendous hit, and he went on to win the league's Hart Memorial Trophy. The award was presented to the team's most valuable player.
