Kung Fu Panda (2008)

Kung Fu Panda is a computer-animated martial arts comedy film released in 2008 by DreamWorks Animation and distributed by Paramount Pictures in the United States. The film is the first in the Kung Fu Panda franchise. The story follows a foolish panda named Po, who is a kung-fu enthusiast, in a version of ancient China populated by anthropomorphic animals. Po is accidentally dubbed the "Dragon Warrior" after a famed kung-fu snow-leopard named Tai Lung is foretold to escape from jail.

Kung Fu Panda debuted in 4,114 cinemas, grossing $20.3 million on its first day and $60.2 million for its first weekend, giving it the box office's top spot. The film became DreamWorks' biggest non-sequel opening weekend, making it the third most grossing film of 2008, the highest-grossing animated film of the year worldwide, and the fourth-largest opening weekend for a DreamWorks film in the United States and Canada, behind all three Shrek sequels.
