Maleficent (2014)

Maleficent is a dark fantasy adventure film directed by Robert Stromberg and based on a script by Linda Woolverton that was released in 2014. The film is a live-action retelling of Walt Disney's 1959 animated film Sleeping Beauty, and portrays the story from the perspective of the eponymous antagonist, depicting her conflicted relationship with the king and princess of a corrupt kingdom. It is loosely inspired by Charles Perrault's original fairy tale.

Critics gave the film mixed reviews, with acclaim for Jolie's acting, the costumes, visual effects, and musical soundtrack. Maleficent was a ticket sales success, grossing over $758 million worldwide, making it the fourth highest-grossing film of 2014 and the highest-grossing film starring Angelina Jolie. At the 87th Academy Awards, the film got a nomination for Best Costume Design. Maleficent: Mistress of Evil, a sequel, was published in 2019.
