Pushing Tin (1999)
Mike Newell directed the comedy-drama film Pushing Tin in 1999. It follows two air traffic controllers (John Cusack and Billy Bob Thornton), who live on living dangerously and strive on numerous levels to outdo one other.
The film is partially based on the real-life TRACON radar installation in New York. The movie bombed at the box office and received mixed reviews. Roger Ebert recommended the film. "The movie is worth seeing, for the good stuff. I'm recommending it because of the performances and the details in the air-traffic control center". The Casting Society of America nominated Ellen Chenoweth for best casting in a movie comedy, and the Motion Picture Sound Editors nominated Colin Miller, Sue Baker, Ross Adams, Derek Holding, and Jacques Leroide for best sound editing.
