Lara Croft: Tomb Raider is a 2001 action-adventure film based on the Tomb Raider video game franchise, which stars Angelina Jolie as Lara Croft. Lara Croft, an orphaned heiress and intrepid archaeologist, sets out on a perilous adventure to recover the two parts of an ancient object that has the power to manipulate time before it falls into the wrong hands. Because a once-in-a-5,000-year planetary alignment is about to occur, the fearless tomb raider will have to team up with rival adventurers and sworn rivals to gather the pieces before time runs out. But, at the end, who will be able to harness the infinite power of the antique talisman?.
The film was released on June 15, 2001, to mostly unfavorable reviews from reviewers, while Angelina Jolie's performance was appreciated. On its debut weekend, Tomb Raider was the highest-grossing film. Lara Croft: Tomb Raider – The Cradle of Life was released in 2003 as a follow-up.
