Lake Akkajaure

Although officially a reservoir created by humans, Lake Akkajaure is one of the biggest and the beautiful lakes in Sweden. It was created at the beginning of the 20th century when the Suorva Dam was built across the Lule River's headwaters. It is surrounded by mountains and trees, with Mount Akka to the south, whose highest summit lowers almost steeply to the lake, dominating the landscape.

It is one of Sweden's deepest lakes, and because energy is generated there to power the area nearby, its water level varies dramatically.

About 50 kilometers from the Norwegian Sea in the northwest of the nation, Lake Akkajaure offers some of the most breathtaking and unimpeded alpine vistas in all of Norway.

Summertime favorites include swimming, boating, and fishing, but due to their northern position, fall and winter arrive earlier. As such, familiarize yourself with the seasons before planning your plans.
