Lake Vänern
After Ladoga and Onega in Russia, Vänern is the largest lake in Sweden, the largest lake in the European Union, and the third-largest lake in all of Europe. It is situated in the southwest of the nation in the provinces of Västergötland, Dalsland, and Värmland.
Lake Vänern and the surrounding region have been crucial to Sweden's economy and development for centuries; many of the adjacent communities still rely on fishing as their main source of income. Its shoreline feature castles that date back to the 13th century.
To make it easier to get raw materials from one side of the country to the other, a number of locks and canals were constructed in the 1800s.
It is one of the most gorgeous due to the virtually flat terrain surrounding the lake and the numerous bays, islands, and peninsulas. If you want to experience one of the spectacular sunsets that are particularly famous here, schedule your visit for the afternoon.
