Lake Bañolas

The largest lake in the province of Gerona and all of Catalonia is Lake Bañolas which is one of the best lakes to visit in Spain. It serves as the city of Bañolas' primary emblem. The lake and its lake basin are thought to be Spain's largest karstic complex, creating an ecological system of exceptional value.


The surrounding town of Bañolas, to which Lake Bañolas wholly belongs, inspired its name. a stunning natural area teeming with wildlife, including ducks and plenty of fish. nice location to unwind and breathe. It can be completed in a few hours by walking, jogging, or cycling. There are a lot of animals to see and clear blue waters. It is possible to swim, however, the water may be chilly.


The origins of Lake Bañolas are tectonic and karstic. About 250,000 years ago, during the Quaternary period, it was formed. The Ampurdán fault was created by tectonic movements brought on by the creation of the Pyrenees. The lake region was formed by erosion and other geological processes. The first lake at Bañolas was substantially wider than the current lake and flooded the banks by around 6 to 8 meters higher than it does now.
