Lake of Stars Festival
The Lake of Stars Festival is an annual three-day festival in Malawi held on the shores of Lake Malawi, the third-largest lake in Africa. The first festival took place in 2004 and attracted more than 4,000 attendees with musical repertoire mainly from Africa and Europe.
Coming to this most famous festival Lake of Stars club, visitors will experience activities such as dancing barefoot on the white sand beach with international DJs and bands; watching the glorious sunset alongside young Malawians and international aid workers from across the continent; camping under palm trees and bathe in freshwater lakes. In particular, the 15th event welcomed 5,000 attendees to a 3-day program led by American electronic trio Major Lazer and Kenyan boy band Sauti Sol and generated an estimated 1.6 million dollars (£1.25m) for Malawi's struggling economy.
The Lake of Stars Festival is not only the most famous festival in Malawi but is considered by many to be one of the most important festivals on the African continent.
