Lake Winnebago

East Central Wisconsin is home to the north central American freshwater lake known as Lake Winnebago. With a surface area of roughly 30 miles by 10 miles, 88 miles of shoreline, an average depth of 15.5 feet, and a maximum depth of 21 feet, it is the largest lake in the state at 137,700 acres. On the west bank, there are numerous small reefs, and on the east, the shoreline drops off. Along the western shore, there are a number of islets.

Due to its location in Fond du Lac and close proximity to important Wisconsin cities like Milwaukee, Green Bay, and Madison, Lake Winnebago is easily accessible. You can establish a base in one of these cities and travel to the lake on a day excursion.

There is a public beach in Lake Winnebago where you can go swimming, and there are 13 public parks where you can go boating and fishing. The High Cliff Escarpment State Natural Area is located along a mile of the Lake Winnebago shoreline. Here, you may view some striking limestone cliffs that were formed by the escarpment as well as rich forests that are home to numerous fern species and unusual flowers because of the ecosystem.
