Latvia University of Life Sciences and Technologies
The Latvia University of Life Sciences and Technologies, formerly known as the Latvia University of Agriculture (Latvian: Latvijas Lauksaimniecības universitāte (LLU)), is a university in Jelgava, Latvia that specializes in agricultural science, forestry, food technology, and related fields.
In 1863, the Riga Polytechnical Institute established the Agricultural Department, which was later renamed the Faculty of Agriculture at the University of Latvia in 1919. It became an independent institution in 1939, when it was established as the Academy of Agriculture in the renovated Jelgava Palace. In 1990, it was renamed Latvia University of Agriculture, and on March 6, 2018, it was renamed Latvia University of Life Sciences and Technologies.
Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2020 place Latvia University of Life Sciences and Technologies (LLU) in the 1001+ bracket. LLU is ranked 174th among universities in EECA (Eastern Europe and Central Asia). LLU is also included in the Multirank and other well-known university rankings.
