The University of Latvia (Latvian: Latvijas Universitāte, abbreviated LU) is a state-run university in Riga, Latvia, founded in 1919. According to the QS World University Rankings, the university is ranked between 801st and 1000th in the world, seventh in the Baltic states, and 50th in the EECA (Emerging Europe and Central Asia) category.
The University of Latvia, formerly known as the Higher School of Latvia (Latvian: Latvijas Augstskola), was established on September 28, 1919, on the site of the former Riga Polytechnic (founded in 1862). Paul Walden, a chemist, was the university's first rector. With the approval of its constitution in 1923, the school received its current name, the University of Latvia (Universitas Latviensis).
The University of Latvia offers undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral degrees, and more than 14,000 students, including Ph.D. and exchange students, were enrolled in various study programs in October 2014. Almost one-third of them pursued degrees in business and economics.

Riga Technical University (RTU) (Latvian: Rīgas Tehniskā universitāte is the Baltic countries' oldest technical university, founded on October 14, 1862. It was previously known as Riga Polytechnical Institute and Riga Polytechnicum and is located in Riga, Latvia.

The Latvia University of Life Sciences and Technologies, formerly known as the Latvia University of Agriculture (Latvian: Latvijas Lauksaimniecības universitāte (LLU)), is a university in Jelgava, Latvia that specializes in agricultural science, forestry, food technology, and related fields.
In 1863, the Riga Polytechnical Institute established the Agricultural Department, which was later renamed the Faculty of Agriculture at the University of Latvia in 1919. It became an independent institution in 1939, when it was established as the Academy of Agriculture in the renovated Jelgava Palace. In 1990, it was renamed Latvia University of Agriculture, and on March 6, 2018, it was renamed Latvia University of Life Sciences and Technologies.
Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2020 place Latvia University of Life Sciences and Technologies (LLU) in the 1001+ bracket. Rezekne Academy of Technologies (Latvian: Rēzeknes Tehnoloģiju akadēmija) is a higher education and scientific research institution in Rēzekne, Latvia. It is one of two Augstskola (literally "high school") in Eastern Latvia. The university is one of the schools worth considering for foreign students who want to learn about studying abroad in this country.
In 1922, Rēzekne established a teacher's college. In the 1980s, the Latvian Popular Front supported the principle of further higher education in Latgale. Classes at the University of Latvia began in 1991, and the Rēzeknes Augstskola was officially established in 1993. In 2016, the current name was adopted. Riga Stradiņš University (RSU) is a public university in Riga, Latvia (Latvian: Rīgas Stradiņa universitāte, Latin: Universitas Rigensis Stradina). The Stradiņš name is owed to members of the Stradiņš family, who have had a significant influence on the course of community and academic life in Latvia for over a century.
Riga Medical Institute was founded in 1950 on the foundation of the Faculty of Medicine of the State University of Latvia. Professors Pauls Stradiņš (1896–1958) and Ernests Burtnieks (1950–1958) - the first Director of Riga Medical Institute, and Healthcare Minister of the Republic of Latvia Ādolfs Krauss - were the initiators. The institute's initial structure included faculties of medicine, dentistry, and pharmacy, as well as 45 departments.
Riga Stradiņš University is a state-funded university that offers a variety of study programs and ensures the completion of scientific projects, as well as training experts in health care and social sciences who work in Latvia and around the world. University of Daugavpils (Latvian: Daugavpils Universitāte, DU) is a public university in Daugavpils, Latvia, and the country's largest regional university. The university began as a teachers' college in 1921. Valērija Seile was its director from 1923 to 1940.
More than 4200 students were enrolled in study programs in 2008. A large Russian-speaking enrollment and faculty facilitates collaboration with universities in the CIS outside of the European Union.

The Stockholm School of Economics in Riga (SSE Riga, or Rīgas Ekonomikas augstskola in Latvian) is a business school in Riga, Latvia. It is a spin-off from the Stockholm School of Economics (SSE). The Stockholm School of Economics founded the school in 1994 with the support of the Swedish government and the Latvian Ministry of Education on behalf of Latvia.
SSE Riga has been owned by a foundation formed by the Stockholm School of Economics (SSE), the University of Latvia (LU), and the SSE Riga Alumni Association since 2010.
Given its small size, admission to SSE Riga is said to be highly selective. The curriculum at the school is entirely in English. It has consistently been ranked as the top business school in Latvia and among the best in Europe, along with its mother school, the Stockholm School of Economics. SSE Riga uses a variety of teaching methods, such as group work, summer internships, and case studies, and has exchange programs with many of Europe's top universities and business schools.
SSE Riga provides two degree programs: a three-year BSc in Economics and Business and a two-year Executive MBA. Both programs are taught in English, and there is a tuition fee. More than 2,300 BSc alumni have graduated, and more than 350 have completed the Executive MBA program.
