Little Forest

Little Forest is a 2018 South Korean drama film directed by Yim Soon-rye and based on Daisuke Igarashi's manga series of the same name, which debuted in 2002. Hye-won (Kim Tae-ri) quits her part-time work in Seoul after failing the national qualifying exam to become a teacher. She returns to the little hamlet where she was raised.

After leaving for the big city in search of what turned out to be an illusive goal, a young woman returns to her childhood home in a rural Korean town. Her mother isn't there when she gets home, but her mother's "Little Forest," the numerous ways in which a single mother successfully created a home for her much-loved kid, unfolds with a long series of painstakingly detailed details, usually involving food preparation. The unfolding moments are shared lightly but affectionately with two childhood friends, one of whom has given up on their elusive ambition of success in the big city (Seoul) and the other who is still pursuing the small town counterpart of that elusive ideal—without ever leaving home.
