Lowry & Baker
Lowry & Baker is a small neighborhood coffee shop that serves its devoted following excellent artisanal breakfasts and lunches despite having only a few wooden tables, a little open-air kitchen, and a parade of sweet goodies on the countertop. L&B's build-your-own-breakfast is a customer favorite for good reason: the artisan organic sourdough was crispy and chewy enough to require a steak knife to get through, and the toppings (you can choose up to three for £9.50), like mashed avocado with omega seeds and lemon and chilli or wild mushrooms with fresh herbs, are fragrant, fresh, and supremely comforting. All of the delicious crackle and snap of a crisp could be heard in the bacon strips.
Nearly as long as the food menu is the list of juices and hot beverages. Warming beverages, such as the pretty-in-pink Velvet Latte made with a zing of fresh ginger, beetroot, and organic almond milk, reeked of sanctimonious healthfulness while also being delightfully delectable and simple to consume. Expect a line if you go on a weekend, but it will be worthwhile.
