Mamoudzou
Mamoudzou is Mayotte's biggest town. It is located on the northeast side of Mayotte's main island (Grande Terre), opposite Mayotte's smaller island, Petit Terre. Mayotte's airport is located on Petit Terre. There is a passenger/car ferry that runs frequently between the two islands. Mamoudzou is where you'll find Mayotte's restaurants, shops, and shopping. It's a vast town with many neglected neighborhoods, yet it's still the greatest destination on the island for shopping and dining.
Mamoudzou features a bank as well as a retail center. The Place du Marche, where the bank, Air France and Ewa Air offices, and the tourism office are situated, is the town's economic center. Mamoudzou is the headquarters of the journal Jana a Leo, which is "mainly concerned with articles on the social life of the island of Mahore". Mamoudzou's notable restaurants include Les Terrasses, Hotel Restaurant Isijiva, Le Barfly, and Mamoudzou La Kaz.
