Mark Lanier
Mark Lanier, an attorney, author, teacher, pastor, and expert story teller, is no stranger to public platform. Ernst v. Merck, the nation's first trial over the painkiller Vioxx, set the precedent for similar cases across the country. Mark followed up his world-record Vioxx verdict with two more significant Vioxx trial victories. In a fraudulent promotion action against one of the world's major distributors of artificial sweeteners, he achieved a precedent-setting settlement for a national sugar association trade group and some of the largest U.S. sugar manufacturers. He was also responsible for a large settlement for syringe producer Retractable Technologies in an antitrust dispute against Becton Dickinson & Company, which was the inspiration for the Chris Evans film "Puncture." His verdict on behalf of 21 asbestos plaintiffs is one of the greatest asbestos liability awards ever made in the United States. In a dispute over unpaid bonuses relating to the sale of an Ingersoll Rand subsidiary, Mark also achieved a settlement for 130 Ingersoll Rand Plc employees.
Mark is constantly recognized by his colleagues and the media as one of the country's top legal minds, having been named Trial Lawyer of the Year by The National Trial Lawyers and The Trial Lawyer magazine, as well as being named to the Lawdragon Top 500. He received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the American Association of Justice in 2015. "One of America's premier civil trial lawyers," according to the New York Times. He has been designated one of the nation's Top 10 Trial Attorneys on two occasions, as well as one of the 100 Most Influential Lawyers in America, by the National Law Journal. Since its inception in 2003, he has been named to the annual Texas Super Lawyers list, including being named one of the Top 10 Attorneys in Texas, in a state-wide attorney survey published in Texas Monthly magazine.
