Mark P. Robinson

The American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA), a national group of experienced trial lawyers and judges with branches in all 50 states, elected Mark Robinson as its 2014 National President. He is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers, a very exclusive professional association of trial lawyers and judges (including Supreme Court justices) whose members are chosen solely on the basis of invitation. He is a past president of the American Board of Trial Advocates' Orange County Chapter. In 2011, he was appointed to the Judicial Council of California's Internal Committee on Court Case Management. Robinson Calcagnie, Inc., situated in Newport Beach, California, is led by Mark P. Robinson, Jr., who is the company's founder, senior partner, and sole shareholder.


Mr. Robinson
graduated from Stanford University with a bachelor's degree in arts and from Loyola School of Law with honors. He has built a prestigious legal practice dedicated to consumer protection and has worked on thousands of product liability cases, including the landmark Ford Pinto case, Grimshaw v. Ford Motor Company, in which a jury in Orange County, California awarded $128 million in compensatory and punitive damages. The verdict was named one of the top 10 civil trials of the previous millennium by the Association of Trial Lawyers of America.

Mr. Robinson
's other notable trials include Anderson v. General Motors, in which a Los Angeles jury awarded $4.9 billion to burn victims in an automobile accident; Barnett v. Merck, in which a jury awarded $51 million in federal court in New Orleans against the maker of the prescription drug Vioxx; Ketchum vs. Hyundai, in which a Los Angeles County jury awarded $15 million to a young boy paralyzed by a defective seat belt during a collision.

Mr. Robinson
was honored by Consumer Watchdog, a national non-profit organization that campaigns for taxpayer and consumer interests, with the Philip Burton Lifetime Legal Achievement Award in June of 2013. He was named into the Trial Lawyer Hall of Fame by the California Bar Association Litigation Section in 2011. Mr. Robinson earned the California Attorney of the Year (CLAY) Award in 2010 and 1999, which is given yearly by California Lawyer magazine to attorneys whose accomplishments have had a significant impact on the law. He was elected California ABOTA Trial Lawyer of the Year in 2008, as well as receiving the Marcus Kaufman Jurisprudence Award from the Anti-Defamation League (Orange County/Long Beach).



He was named "Mass Tort Trial Lawyer of the Year" by the Orange County Trial Lawyers Association in 2006, and he earned the Civil Justice Program's Champion of Justice Award in 2007. Mr. Robinson is also a founding member of the Orange County Bar Foundation, a non-profit philanthropic organization that helps youngsters, their families, and the community. Mr. Robinson has been recognized as one of the Top 100 Lawyers in the State of California for many years by The Best Lawyers in America®, a peer-reviewed publication that lists exceptional attorneys from across the country. He was also recognized to the 2014 Top 50 Orange County and Top 100 Southern California lists by the attorney rating website Super Lawyers. Mr. Robinson was designated one of the top ten "Most Influential Lawyers in California" by California Law Business in 2001. He was elected President of the Consumer Attorneys of California (CAOC), which was originally known as the California Trial Lawyers Association, in 1999. Mr. Robinson was named "Personal Injury Trial Lawyer of the Year" by the Orange County Trial Lawyers Association in 1996 and 1978.


He has served on the boards of the Association of Trial Lawyers of America (ATLA) [now the American Association for Justice (AAJ)], the Orange County Chapter of the Association of Business Trial Lawyers, and the International Society of Barristers. He is one of the Attorney Information Exchange Group's five founders (AIEG). He has served as President of the Orange County Trial Lawyers Association and the Orange County Bar Association Charitable Fund in 2001. He has also served as a Lawyer Representative to the Judicial Conference of the Ninth Circuit (1999-2002). Mr. Robinson has substantial litigation and leadership expertise in mass tort complex litigation.
