Maskanoo
Maskanoo is the most famous festival in the Turks and Caicos Islands, which takes place on December 26. Maskanoo is a street festival organized and combines elements of masquerades and Junkanoo in the traditional Bahamian style. Maskanoo is organized by the local Hospitality and Tourism Association, and the event takes place in the evening on Grace Bay Road in the heart of the shopping district. Food and craft vendors also offer a wide selection of merchandise.
Celebrated the day after Christmas, Maskanoo is the most famous festival day, known for being a celebration of the island's rich history and unique culture. It is a celebration of the West African and Caribbean heritage of the Turks and Caicos that grew out of 19th-century slaves who celebrated Christmas by mocking the costume balls of the rich. The event is held near Grace Bay, which features fireworks, vendors, music, and food.
