New Year’s Eve
New Year's Eve is known to be one of the most famous festivals in the Turks and Caicos Islands. The most impressive display of the year is the fireworks over Grace Bay Beach on New Year's Eve. Many of the larger resorts on the show guard their own fireworks displays, and as the clocks go to midnight, the whole of Grace Bay lights up. It's not just fireworks, there's usually some campfire on the beach (the largest is usually at Ricky's restaurant), and the Sky lanterns can be seen drifting away all night.
New Year's Eve offers food, festival, and fun in a setting second to none. At this most famous festival, an island favorite is Conch, a delicacy from sea snails that are sought after worldwide for its versatility in cooking. It appears on the New Year's Eve menu in many popular forms: conch wonton, conch fritters, conch salad, and conch stew. Another perennial favorite is Jerk Chicken, where tender chicken is marinated in a wonderful blend of spices and herbs afterward. On New Year's Eve, bonfires and beach barbecues are held, and at the end of the evening colorful fireworks displays light up Grace Bay Beach from one end to the other to open. a whole new year.
