Maundy Thursday

"Maundy Thursday" is a wonderful narrative about a convict Yun-soo who is awaiting execution and makes a highly intimate bond with a young suicidal woman Yu-jeong who is visiting the prison with her aunt Sister Monica. Given that Yun-soo and Yu-jeong both had a painful upbringing and a troubled background, it is only natural for them to connect and form an emotional tie with one another.

The sheer emotional intensity of the story propels the film's perfectly designed narrative forward, and director Song Hae-ability sung's to reach out to his audience in simple ways without unnecessary emotional manipulation is genuinely extraordinary. The characters are richly detailed, and emotions are at the heart of this treasure of a film. It’s a film that must be watched for its astonishing simplicity and heartbreaking honesty.
